Antique Losol Ware Chatsworth Covered Tureen | Keeling & Co. English Blue Transferware
A beautiful antique Losol Ware covered tureen by Keeling & Co. of Burslem, England, decorated in the richly detailed Chatsworth pattern. Deep blue transfer decoration covers the softly scalloped body and original fitted lid, creating the layered floral and scrolling design characteristic of traditional English transferware.
The tureen has an especially handsome form, with decorative open side handles, a scalloped rim, and a domed lid finished with an ornate molded handle. The original lid remains with the piece and sits properly in place—a wonderful survivor from an era when covered serving pieces were an essential part of the English table.
The underside bears the Losol Ware / Chatsworth / K & Co. B. / Late Mayers maker’s mark, identifying the piece with Keeling & Co. of Burslem, Staffordshire, England. Based on the maker, pattern, and mark, we conservatively date the tureen to the late 19th to early 20th century.
A substantial decorative piece for collectors of antique English transferware, blue-and-white china, Losol Ware, Keeling & Co. pottery, Victorian and Edwardian tableware, and traditional English ceramics. Beautiful displayed in a china cabinet, on open shelving, or incorporated into a collected dining-room vignette.
