Antique Oval Portrait Shadowbox Frame w/ Hand-Tinted Photograph
An object that holds more than an image—it holds presence.
This antique shadowbox frame centers a softly aged oval portrait, likely early 20th century, with delicate hand-tinting still visible beneath the glass. The depth of the frame gives it a quiet dimensionality—more than a picture, it reads as an object of display.
A gilt-toned interior molding sits within a painted outer frame, worn in places to reveal the years beneath. The portrait is set against a dark ground, allowing the subject to emerge gently in changing light.
The construction suggests it was once more securely sealed—the backing has been removed at some point in its life, exposing the inner structure and original mounting. It remains stable for display and presents well from the front.
A faint signature or maker’s mark is present in the lower right; however, it is not fully legible.
A piece that doesn’t rely on perfection—only presence.
Collected slowly. Chosen with care.
