French Ormolu Pediment Fragment | Salvaged Clock Mount
A small fragment, once part of something larger.
This decorative gilt-metal mount appears to be a salvaged French pediment or crest, likely removed from a clock case, casket, jewelry box, or other ornamental object. Its openwork scrolls and central cartouche retain the romantic, architectural quality often found in late 19th- and early 20th-century French decorative arts.
Along the reverse is a narrow built-in ledge, allowing the piece to rest upright as a sculptural object. Though its original purpose has been lost to time, it now stands beautifully on its own as a study in form and ornament.
Collected slowly and chosen for its quiet presence, this fragment works especially well:
- Resting atop a stack of antique books
- Styled in a cabinet of curiosities
- Used as a decorative accent beneath a small framed photograph
- Incorporated into mixed-media or assemblage art
- Added to a collection of architectural salvage and ormolu fragments
The surface shows age-related wear, soft patina, and areas of finish variation consistent with its history. These details are part of its charm and are reflected in the photographs.
Measurements: Approximately 4” wide x 1” tall
Condition: Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear and patina. Stands upright using the attached rear ledge.
A quiet remnant of French ornament—small in scale, but rich in character.
