Antique Cabinet Card Portrait of Young Woman in Antique Gilt Frame | Original Backing & Photograph

A portrait that nearly didn’t survive.

I originally purchased this piece for the frame alone. Hidden beneath a pasted hunting scene print was the original cabinet card portrait still resting inside. Once uncovered, this striking young woman emerged—a photograph with far more character and presence than the image that had concealed her for decades.

The cabinet card appears to be original to the frame and remains housed within its antique gilt frame. Her expression is thoughtful and quietly captivating, making this a wonderful decorative portrait for a gallery wall, bookshelf, or layered antique interior.

The antique frame itself shows honest age and wear. At some point, small nails were added to the sides to reinforce the structure. The frame is stable for display, though the glass is ever so slightly undersized for the opening and has minor movement within the frame.

The portrait retains scattered spots of old glue residue on the surface from the print that once covered it. The residue is subtle and somewhat difficult to see in direct sunlight, but it is present and has been reflected in the pricing. Despite these imperfections, the portrait displays beautifully and retains its historic charm.
