1974 AQHA Grand Champion Mare Horse Trophy

An original 1974 equestrian award with a wonderfully specific connection to American Quarter Horse history.

Presented by the American Quarter Horse Association for Grand Champion Mare in Minerva, Ohio, this substantial vintage trophy features a sculptural horse mounted on a solid wood base with its original engraved award plaque still intact.

The underside identifies the maker as Custom Trophies Inc., 1715 Avondale, Amarillo, Texas, while the horse itself is marked © American Quarter Horse Association. Handwriting also remains on the underside of the wood base, adding another layer to the trophy’s history.

Weighing more than four pounds, the piece has substantial presence. Its aged surface shows tarnish, oxidation, areas of discoloration, scratches, and other wear accumulated over decades of use and display. The wood base likewise carries light scratching and age-related wear.
